The Malaysian Water Association (MWA) brings together practitioners in the water service industries value chain. Its membership consists of individuals and organizations. The strength of the association is derived from the mix of members coming from water supply and sewerage utilities, manufacturers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, regulators and academics.
MWA collaborates efforts towards bringing about enhancement of the knowledge and skill of its members and promotes awareness of water issues among the public. Alongside this, public interest and environmental concern are promoted. MWA put forward views of the members to the authorities and makes representation on strategic issues. It is committed towards promoting sustainable management of the water services.
Internationally, MWA maintains linkages with related organizations abroad to establish networking for realizing the common goals. It is a Corporate Member of the International Water Association (IWA). The MWA President, Dato' Syed Muhammad Shahabudin sits on the IWA Governing Board. One of our members, Professor Dr. Zaini Ujang has been elected as Vice-President of the world body for the session 2004-2006.
The management of the affairs of the association is vested in a Council elected every two years. It establishes committees to execute the various functions and activities of the association. This includes organizing conferences, seminars, training, publication and research.
The MWA building at Jalan Taman Sri Hartamas 8, Kuala Lumpur houses the secretariat, seminar room and the resource centre from 1st May 2005. The secretariat has been strengthened with the appointment of Mr. G.R. Dhanagunan as the full time head. He brought with him over 25 years of experience in the water services industry, and most recently, in human resource development. The revamped and strengthened secretariat will greatly increase the capability to serve members.
Communication between MWA and its members and among the members themselves is considered vital and to this end this website has been upgraded to be the main channel of contact. This website is also the channel for MWA to interact with the public in raising awareness and for getting feedback in relation to the water services.
